Project No. 6214
BE Collective were appointed as structural and civil consultants for alterations and additions to the Australia Post Mail Centre at Bundall.
The mail centre runs 24 hours a day 6 days a week and thus construction programming is a key driver for the project, and thus a Design & Construct (D&C) contract form was adopted.
The project features a 1000m2 warehouse addition, new plant platform and minor interior alterations, as well as 5000m2 of new concrete & asphalt pavements, stormwater drainage and vehicle crossovers.
Foundation material was predominately sand and thus screw piles were adopted to minimise excavation costs and programme impact. Only hot-rolled steel sections were used for the plant platform structure due to the harsh conditions associated with the vicinity of the Gold Coast Beaches. High early strength concrete and protective steel plates were specified to specific pavement areas requiring early trafficking by trucks.
Construction is due to be completed mid 2012 to check back for progress photos & video.
