Stone & Wood Brewery, Bridge Street

Project No: 7089

We were excited to be called in to provide structural remediation and strengthening advice on a heritage building on Bridge street – destined to become the new Stone & Wood Brewery!

Stone & Wood’s latest brewery is just around the corner from our Brisbane Head Office, and it’s in a beautiful building, once the home of Trails Ice.

We provided structural strengthening design & site supervision for both the suspended ground floor slab and for the boundary brick wall mullion framing and bracing. Our structural design had to accommodate over 11 tonnes of specialised brewing equipment at capacity (that’s a lot of beer).  At the time of our initial inspection, the suspended ground floor slab had well exceeded its design life. We used semi-permanent structural steel bracing to ensure the aged suspended slab was up to its new task. We also coordinated Core holes and Ground Penetrating Radar scan of the lower ground slab, and framework for an annual post-construction phase inspection regime.

BEC was further engaged to provide Hydraulic, Wet-Fire and Civil investigation for the site including the entire storm-water/rainwater system, water reticulation, and trade-waste. We established that the existing clay sewer dated to 1910, was under-sized for commercial use, & also partially blocked. Similarly, the water supply was under-sized for wet-fire requirements. New water & sewer connections were designed and documentation in our capacity as endorsed QUU consultants.
