Project No. 7888
The Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Ground is undergoing an extensive redevelopment, transforming an iconic cricket ground into a vibrant, activated precinct that can be enjoyed by the community all-year-round. Development scope includes a resort style aquatics facility, with BEC providing full aquatic & structural for this component, working with COX architecture, Stantec, Swimple, & aquatic tiling completed by Metz Tiles.
In a 2021 article by cricket.com.au on WACA’s facelift, Cricket Australia’s interim CEO Nick Hockley said,
“It is incredibly exciting to see the WACA Ground Improvement Project take its next step with the unveiling of the plans for the precinct. This will be a truly world-class facility that will greatly benefit cricket in the West & Australian Cricket more generally.”

The $166 million project, being funded by Federal & State Governments, & City of Perth, with additional funding from Cricket Australia & WA Cricket Foundation, is now well underway & due for completion August 2025.
The redeveloped Ground will have a capacity of 10,000 seats for entertainment & sporting events. An Aboriginal cultural narrative has been incorporated into both planning & design, being similar to Matagarup Bridge & Optus Stadium.
The project aspires to drive improved community & social outcomes, whilst recognising history & the rich cricketing heritage whilst still maintaining International Cricket Council (ICC) Accreditation.
There will be a public café, with indoor & outdoor seating, dedicated high performance facilities for elite players, including gym, change rooms & recovery facilities.
Within the WACA Ground, there is also a museum which records the rich history & heritage of the Ground. Sensory rooms, changing places, & all-abilities playground is available for the community. Lengthening of the oval will enable other sports to be played – such as Aussie Rules football.
The new community resort style aquatics facility includes:
- A 50m, 6 lane swimming pool,
- A 25m Learn to Swim (LTS) Indoor pool,
- Significant water slides & splash pad
Our leading structural & aquatic engineers designed the pools, splash pad, slide interfaces, & separate water treatment for each component.
