Julia Creek Aerodrome

Project No. 6867

Following a technical inspection in July 2017, Mckinlay Shire Council engaged BEC to design & document pavement rehabilitation & lighting upgrades for the Julia Creek Aerodrome in North West QLD.

The Aerodrome facilitates scheduled commercial flights by Rex Airlines, provides essential deliveries to the region, & accommodates transportation for 3,000 athletes, musicians and bull riders to the infamous annual Dirt’n Dust Festival.

Our design brief included runway, taxiway, and apron pavements, civil drainage and runway lighting. BE Collective was further engaged to offer comprehensive project management & superintendency services throughout construction.

The full 1.4km of stabilised pavement & sealed surface was completed within two weeks, through periods of monsoonal rain and extreme heat well above 40° degrees.

Barton Street

Project No. 6807

BE Collective was commissioned by Jason Bird (Founder, managing director, and designer at Luxxbox) to work on structural alterations and additions on ‘The Bird House’ as it has come to be known in the office.  The existing house is a two-storey construction with single-storey street frontage on stumps, and a lower storey which is part built in.

Our mission – as we chose to accept it – was to take the existing house and transform it into a modern dwelling that grows from and compliments the surrounding terrain. Our work included an extension, pool and carport to create a living space that a world class design professional would appreciate.

The diverse professional skillset of our team allowed us control of the project across disciplines, meaning we could complete the revitalised building design; structural analysis and design; and energy efficiency design process comprehensively and internally. This enabled greater communication across disciplines and a unity of vision throughout every stage of the project. After taking over the design process, BEC was able to drastically reduce construction costs, while increasing thermal performance of the building and provide significant engineering solutions and comprehensive ESD for this structurally complex construction. Darling Heights State School

BE Collective staff provided Project Management services for the Construction phase of the Darling Heights State School project. The project comprised three separate work fronts, with the construction of a new state of the art Music and teaching facility, the extension of an existing prep teaching building and the full refurbishment of an English as a Second Language (ESL) centre.

The Music facility is designed with inclusions such as full acoustic consideration, digital inter connectivity, media production and rehearsal rooms and a ‘green wall’ for video editing. An adjacent awning provides approximately 400m2 of undercover play area for the junior school.

The extension of the Prep building involved the expansion and full refurbishment of the teaching and Administrative spaces.  Works undertaken on the ESL building involved a full refurbishment including finishes and multiple operative walls to enable customisation of the teaching spaces.

Due to the location of the work zones enclosed within the operating school, student safety was paramount to all methodology approaches. This meant maximising works during holiday periods, before and after school and over weekends. Works were complete on program and on budget. (more…)
