Sunken Stadium Proposed for Auckland

As New Zealand discusses whether their largest stadium, Eden Park, should be replaced or expanded, some wild ideas are being floated…and perhaps successfully sunk.

Appropriately named The Crater, this out of the box stadium proposal was put forward by local design and marketing figure Phil O’Reilly. His pitch suggests a stadium sunken into the waterfront, which would even allow cruise liners to berth on either side! Viewing would be great from the nearby high-rises, and according to O’Reilly the stadium could even be cheaper than the traditional above-ground variety. We’re not too sure about that, but what a cool idea!
