Another Mornington Shire Council Project, we were engaged to provide structural consultancy in support of moving 9 hospital demountables to new sites. MoSC specified a bored design for the new piers, with setout to vary between buildings. Council had access to a wide range of geotechnical reports for the township and nominated the closest profile to supply to the proposed site. With this in mind, we engineered to a conservative assumption for the soil profile based on the information from council. We also supplied options for the site foreman where it was likely for a rock profile or refusal to be encountered at a shallow depth.
For the Design and Documentation stages of the project, we provided design of building foundations and support posts, general arrangement and details for the nine demountables, and form 15 certification. During the project’s construction phase, we provided RFI Responses and form 16 certification. Mornington Island’s extreme remote location proved challenging in a number of ways for the project. Aside from the expected lead time extensions, we were particularly limited by the type of equipment that council had available, which restricted our options for bore holes and depths.
